Wedding Album or a just a Disk?

What happen to wedding albums? Back in the days of film photography I would take lots of family photos and send them out for quick printing at the local lab.  I would excitedly pick them up and happily put them in my peel and stick albums. I have dozen of albums of precious memories going back many years.  The family can easily go pull one out at any moment and flip through the pages and enjoy reliving all the captured moments of our lives.  That is until I went fully digital in 2003.  Since then I’m ashamed to say that  sadly our family memories are still scattered on different external hard drives, backed up on dvds, and generally not easily accessible to enjoy.  It’s been many years and I still have every intention of  “someday”  designing an album with the story of our lives –  post digital age. Wish me luck with that.

This got me thinking about my client’s wedding memories. In the not so distant past, every bride and groom purchased a wedding album. I remember the joy and satisfaction of delivering the wedding album to my bridal couples and hearing them ooh and aah and getting to see their happiness as they turned each page. Or if I had to ship their album, I was sure to get a phone call, e-mail and/or card expressing their excitement and gratitude once they received it. Even though my clients get to view the album design before it’s printed, they are blown away by the final product.  I am so thrilled when I hear that the wedding album is their favorite possession and how much it means to them.

“We just received the album yesterday and we LOVE it!!!!!! I gasped every time I turned the page, haha! It totally blew me away… It’s beautiful and perfect!!!! You were right, I was so surprised at how big it was, I love it!! I had no idea it was going to be like this… I’ve never seen anything like it! The word “album” doesn’t give it justice, haha! Thank you again so much for all of your hard work, you truly have a gift !

Love, Kristin and Trevor”

Due to the down turned economy and tighter bridal budgets, many clients choose to only purchase the disk of wedding images; it’s the new “norm”. But are they thinking ahead to what they might do with their disk of images? Are they going to  keep them on their computer and look at them that way? Are they going to have a few prints made to display around the house? Or do they have plans to create a scrap book or some inexpensive on-line album themselves? If so, I wonder how many actually get around to it.

Creating the best wedding day experience – The Wedding Dress

Okay girls…we need to have a little chat about the “Wedding Dress”. I know you brides love your dresses and they are an important part of your day and I totally get that.  However, after shooting  hundreds of weddings over the years, I have a perspective that I would like to share.

I have noticed that many brides are so focused on the dress and keeping it perfectly pristine, that hugs bring fear rather than JOY. If feeling that any smudge, spec, or wrinkle is a potential wedding day disaster, then you’re not free to really enjoy your wedding day like you could.

PLEASE REMEMBER, that the people at your wedding will be looking at YOU in the dress. The HAPPY, GLOWING, IN LOVE, EXCITED you!  ENJOY your day. If a spec of water gets on the dress, it will dry. If a Nat flies into your dress and leaves a tiny smudge, no one will see it.  If the very bottom of your dress gets a tad dirty as you walk around, it’s okay. No one will notice. I promise. If you worry that much about your dress, the stress will be felt not only by you, but by those around you. In the end it’s about the man you are marrying and the memories that you make with the people you love, that will make your wedding day special.

Brides who say, “I’m only wearing  it once, I’m going to have a good time!” end up having an amazingly fun time at their wedding.   I want every bride to have an amazing good time on her wedding day.

So my beautiful brides keep things in perspective. Remember to relax,” it’s only a dress”.  And at the end of the night hopefully your dress will be a testament to how much fun you really did have!

Here’s three beautiful brides that really knew how to have fun in their dresses!

Makeup artist Shi of Let’s Get VAMP!

Becca Boudoir

I was fortunate enough to meet Shi at an event and asked for a card. Shi is a master makeup artist and owner of VAMP or as she likes to say, Let’s Get Vamp!

The first thing that struck me about her was her stunning beauty. I immediately thought, “I want to photograph her!”.  When my bride Becca, hired her to do makeup for her engagement session, I was literally blown away!  Becca has natural beauty and doesn’t normally wear makeup.  BUT WOW, with makeup I was awestruck by how gorgeous her eyes were and how glamorous she looked!  I was amazed at how Shi could make her eyes so dramatic without making her look overdone. Becca mentioned that she got exactly the “look” that she had described to Shi.

I have seen several more examples of Shi’s amazing talent and have been impressed by how she is able to perfectly enhance the features and give the client exactly what they asked for.  She’s professional, prompt, a total sweetheart to work with AND creates something new and fresh for each client/occasion.  Her makeup has inspired me to have a beauty session done for myself and I can’t wait to see what she does with my eyes (she’s amazing with eyes)!

I can’t say enough about this Amazing woman and her ARTISTIC talents!  I want to spread the word, so other women can look and feel their most beautiful for any special occasion, especially photos!!

Christmas is right around the corner, what a great gift for your boyfriend or husband; A beauty session!! Call me, because like Shi, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, to make women feel beautiful!

I’d like to introduce Shi to all my readers, so here goes…

Becca & Jason’s Wedding 10-26-13

2013-11-02_0073Jason & Becca have known each other since high school and even went to the prom together.  They remained friends through all the years and were always there for each other during important events.  In recent times as they shared more time together they both realized that their deep love & care for one another had grown into romantic love. I was so excited to photograph their wedding. Ever since the moment Becca and I met, we have become fast friends! So being able to share in her excitement and capture her wedding day memories was very special.

The day was beautiful. The house was filled with love as the family gathered to get ready. Becca was all smiles as she listened to music, drank champagne and laughed through the normal wedding day chaos.  She worked so hard planning every detail of her wedding. Even designing her own tablescapes & flowers. Everything was beautiful, especially Becca. Her adorable smile, spunky personality and genuine love, draws people to her like a magnet!  Jason is the strong silent (engineer) type. So they balance each other well. And Becca’s children just adore Jason, so they were thrilled!

Congratulations, I am so happy for all of you! It was awesome to be part of your day and share in your joy with you.
