I was surprised to open my door to a group of carolers last night, who were dressed in the style of early 1900’s clothing. I was delighted by their beautiful voices and the traditional music of the season. That was gift enough, but when they were done, I was handed a candy cane attached to a card and that’s when I learned something about the candy cane that I never knew. This is the Legend of the Candy Cane.
The outside of the card read, “The greatest gift of all came one night in a lowly manger…”
The inside read, “According to the legend, there was a candy maker who wanted to invent a candy that was a witness to Christ. The result was the candy cane. First of all he used a hard candy, because Christ is the Rock of all ages. This hard candy was shaped so that it would resemble either a J for Jesus or a shepherd’s staff.
Inspiration & Design Photography wins WeddingWire Couple’s Choice Award 2016!
I was thrilled when I opened my inbox today! Why, you ask? Well, because I received notification that I was chosen again this year for the WeddingWire Couple’s Choice Award 2016!
This means a lot to me. I put my heart & soul into serving my clients & creating quality images of their wedding day. Having my clients acknowledge their gratitude for that hard work makes this award possible.
About The Couple’s Choice Award
The WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Awards® 2016 recognizes the top 5% of local Wedding Professionals from the WeddingWire Network throughout the United States and abroad that demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism. Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the organization, the WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Awards® are awarded solely based on the reviews from over 1.2 million newlyweds. Awards are determined by a combination of excellence in four factors: overall rating (quality), total number of reviews (quantity), review performance from 2015 (recency), and consistency of reviews from year to year (consistency).
I am thankful to WeddingWire for creating the couple’s choice award program and for the opportunity to receive this award each year. I’m also over-the-moon thankful, to every client for taking the time to express their gratitude in a review for me. Your words give other brides the guidance & confidence they need, when it comes to the hard task of choosing the perfect vendors for their wedding day. Here’s what one bride had to say:
“This award absolutely made a difference when I was picking vendors. If a vendor had that seal, I knew that enough engaged couples liked their services that I would, too. It helped me decide between two DJs that were otherwise equal.”

Hope for a Happy New Year! 2015 had its highs & lows for me. In life, there are times when you’re on a high, feeling celebrated and appreciated. Then there are times when you just feel like giving up. And by YOU I mean ME. Although I am sure there are many out there that have experienced those same feelings.
Sometimes we may wonder what our path is. Are we on the right path? Whatever path you are on, just remember there is hope. Hope for something good ahead. A new year comes with much hope and anticipation about what the year will bring.
Hope that this year you will indeed lose weight and eat healthier. Hope that you will find that special someone to share your life with. Hope for a world with more love & less hate. Hope for loved ones who are sick, or hope for a better job.
Whatever you’re hoping for, may this next year be filled with wonderful surprises, fulfilled dreams and of course LOVE. Because whatever our hope or whatever our path, LOVE is what makes the journey worthwhile.
I LOVE to watch PERIOD films. It’s fascinating to see how people lived, the clothes they wore, their traditions, their decorous speech and of course ROMANCE. I don’t think love has changed much, but they way people approach romance and courting has. A LOT!!
I thought it would be fun to look back at weddings specifically. Since I love both VINTAGE and FASHION, I thought a post about wedding styles through the ages would be an interesting post.
As I began to do my research on wedding styles through the ages, I found a great example of exactly what I wanted on Weddings by Lilly . I thought this was perfection and why mess with perfection!
I’m so excited to show you my gallery make-over! Wow, I can’t believe it’s been sooooo long since I’ve blogged. Being a wedding photographer, this is typically the slow season for images. But I have been scheduling lots of great weddings for the year and can’t wait to start shooting!! But for now, I will share a little of what I have been doing.
It’s been nice taking a break from blogging and I’ve been trying not to feel guilty, especially when I look at my stats and see how many people are coming to view new material and there is none. Thanks to all that still come, I hope to give you lots of eye candy this year.
I have been working on all kinds of “stuff” this winter. This is the time I typically try to update samples, work on marketing, create new product lines & pricing, get stuff ready for taxes; you know all that really FUN stuff! I do enjoy winter because I get to take a little more time for me. When wedding season hits, it’s like jumping on a treadmill going at full speed, all you can do is try to keep the pace without falling on your face!
One of my winter projects has been updating my gallery room where I meet with clients. I had put the room together with items I already had when I moved in. It was okay, but not pushing my happy buttons. So with excitement and anticipation of what I might do with my room, I set out with my cell phone photo as a reference & began searching for inspiration! And in two days I found my direction and transformed the room! YAY me. Okay…I get excited about decorating. Photography & decorating compete for number one position in my creative life. I hope this post helps you with a room that isn’t pushing your happy buttons and gives you inspiration to transform that room. Send me your before and afters! Or if you want some ideas, send me a photo of your room and a message with your questions. Maybe a new set of eyes can help you transform your room! I’d love to help.
After 8 years in the Roanoke, VA area, I have decided to move to Charlotte, NC! We are very excited about this relocation and anticipate EXCITING things ahead for the business. As we pack, move and get settled, I will not be posting to my blog. I hope to be back and posting around the 3rd week of June. Thanks so much for your patience during this transition!!
Hello All! My name is Emily Plecker, Debrah’s new sidekick for the month of January! I come from the down home backwoods of Bath County, Virginia, home of the critically acclaimed Homestead Resort. You may be familiar with it! I currently reside in Roanoke, Virginia while I continue my third year at Hollins University. My passion lies within the subjects of Creative Writing and Photography. I have been writing expressively since I was a young girl, whether it be through poetry, short stories, or just simply journaling. I am a firm believer that self expression is essential in surviving this crazy life. Not to mention it allows you to discover yourself as a person. After all, who can you be if you cannot first be yourself?!
Anyway, now my journey has brought me to you and hopefully this month I can shed some light on the world for you through my eyes! How did I find myself familiar with Inspiration and Design you might ask? Debrah and I met last January when I interviewed her for the wedding issue of Bella Magazine. Needless to say we had an immediate connection and gabbed away for hours longer than either of us intended! Now, a year later, I have the privilege of working with her on fun and exciting new projects for 2012! As a young creative mind I am excited to work and write more freely during my time with Debrah. One of those creative things is writing as a guest on
Debrah’s blog. I am also confident I have much to learn from Debrah being the successful lady that she is! Hopefully she can show me the ropes on this big fancy camera with endless capabilities that I have yet to figure out!
